Mission Hospital recently received Magnet recognition from the American Nurses Credentialing Center, considered the highest national honor bestowed upon nursing services, Mission administrators said in a statement.

With this credential, Mission Hospital joins the Magnet community of 393 health care organizations out of nearly 6,000 nationwide. U.S. News & World Report’s annual ranking of best hospitals includes Magnet recognition in its criteria for quality of inpatient care.

“Magnet recognition is a symbol of the hospital’s commitment to excellence in the delivery of patient care,” said Linda Johnson, vice president of patient care and chief nursing officer for Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo and Laguna Beach. “It took tremendous teamwork and collaboration amongst all staff to achieve this recognition.”

To achieve Magnet recognition, organizations must provide written documentation demonstrating qualitative and quantitative evidence regarding patient care and outcomes. If scores fall within a range of excellence, an on-site visit will occur to assess the applicant. After this review, the center votes to determine whether Magnet recognition will be granted.
