The Boys and Girls Club opened the doors of their newest branch this week at Lang Park in South Laguna. Children in first through fifth grades are welcome to join the club’s daily out-of- school enrichment program.

“The Lang Branch will be a place for children to grow socially, intellectually and creatively. The facilities at beautiful Lang Park offer endless opportunities for children to explore their interests and find their talents,” said director Elena Mendoza in a statement.

The club offers access to the city park’s tennis and basketball courts, a baseball field, and a fully equipped playground with an ocean view, as well as use of the indoor gym and multipurpose room at the Lang Park Community Center.

The new branch will be staffed with five club employees who will guide children in boosting their skills in the arts, technology, photography, cooking and digital arts. In addition, the Power Hour offers support in completing daily homework assignments and class projects. Also provided are daily outdoor activities through organized sports, games and guided free-play.

The new branch will allow the club to offer out of school care to more than the 350 families currently enrolled between the club’s main Laguna Canyon branch and TLC in Bluebird Park. “With the addition of the Lang Branch, we won’t have to turn children away,” said Mendoza.

A waiting list 25-kids long has persisted at TLC for several years, said Pam Estes, the club’s executive director, who expects some parents to relocate their children to the new satellite facility. “We also hope to serve some new families in South Laguna, because it will be more convenient for them,” said Estes, who aims to serve 50 elementary age children at Lang Branch.

Hours at the Lang Branch, 21547 Wesley Dr., are Monday-Friday, 2:30-6 p.m.; Wednesdays, 1:30-6 p.m. School buses will transport students directly from Top of the World and El Morro elementary schools to Lang Branch.

Club fees are $265 per month and all children must be Boys & Girls Club members. Club memberships are $150 per year. Additional information at: 949-715-7322.
