I strongly believe that Laguna will benefit from making Park Plaza permanent.
During its trial run from October through December of last year, I surveyed over 100 users of the plaza. Both residents and visitors alike loved the area for a chance to relax, grab a bite, take in the views, and people watch. A survey of 31 merchants also showed support for Park Plaza.
Most Laguna residents support the plaza although a significant minority object to the fact that their traffic cut-through would be lost. This objection can be mitigated in the future with longer left turn lanes on Coast Highway.
Lower Park is a great location for a plaza; it’s close to the street, has a nice sense of enclosure with the surrounding buildings and canopy trees, and will provide a wonderful gathering place for residents, families and visitors. The trial period showed great use even during the cooler weather, and the temporary design used, will be improved. Every town ought to have a plaza and our beautiful village will cherish it for years to come. Support Park Plaza!
