A deer that ran onto the beach and into the ocean died after it swam ashore below Laguna Beach’s Montage resort this past Monday, police said.
A resident of nearby Victoria Beach called for aid about 10:27 a.m. after observing a deer in the water continuing to swim rather than heading for shore, said Lt. Jason Kravetz, who reported another call about a deer running around Treasure Island Beach below the Montage. “It is more than likely the same deer,” he said.
Two stand up paddle boarders attempted to assist by herding the deer towards shore, Kravetz said. A lifeguard, who also went into the water, was able to bring the deer ashore. But the animal died as it reached Goff Island, he said.

Vehicle burglary. 200 block N. Coast Hwy. After the victim parked and locked her car, an unknown suspect shattered the rear passenger window and stole a green and pink leather Coach purse. The loss is $717 for the purse and miscellaneous contents.
Fraud report. 30800 block Coast Hwy. A female resident believes her ex-employer created a fake Facebook page to discredit her.

Grand theft. 3100 Bern Dr. Someone stole a Louis Vuitton bag and Ella Moss dress valued at $3,445 from a guest at a house party. The dress and purse, minus $400 in cash, were found Saturday, May 19, elsewhere on Bern.
DUI. 100 block of N. Coast Hwy. 11:55 p.m. A 24-year-old Corona man was arrested for DUI and suspicion of marijuana possession. Bail was set at $2,500.
Thursday, May 17
Petty theft. 600 block of Lombardy Lane. 12:39 p.m. Two pairs of sunglessas and a bag with exercise equipment, cumulatively valued at $800, was stolen from a locked vehicle.
Warrant arrest. 2000 block S. Coast Hwy. Darren Agee Merager, 42, of Marina Del Rey, was arrested for a Beverly Hills warrant for stolen property. Bail was set at $500,000.
DUI. 9:07 p.m. State Hwy 73. Arcadia resident Lilia Lihui Chen, 36, was arrested for suspicion of DUI as well as alleged possession of 25 grams of methamphetamine, Xanax, and Soma pills, without prescriptions for either. She posted bail of $25,000 and was released.
Warrant arrest. 10:10 a.m. 500 block of Forest Ave. Ronald Sheldon, 49, of Wilmington, was arrested on a $70,000 felony warrant for suspicion of stalking after his former Laguna Beach girlfriend reported months of harassment, from gluing her door locks to hacking her website.

Lost property. 4:35 p.m. 500 block of Forest Ave. A man reporting losing his 18 karat gold Celeni Rolex with diamonds valued at $20,000 while walking near Alta Vista Drive.
Child endangerment. 5:40 p.m. Coast Hwy. Micaela Guadalupe Vargas, 39, of Dana Point was arrested for suspicion of DUI and child endangerment and held for $100,000 bail. Police found her passed out at the wheel after a motorist reported her vehicle weaving. A 12-year-old son was in the car.
Trespassing. 7:35 p.m. 30800 block of Coast Hwy. Hotel guests surprised Iana Michina Smallen, 34, of Dana Point, who allegedly conned a maid to gain entry and was found laying on the bed, eating their food and going through their jewelry. Smallen, on probation for a previous felony conviction, was held for $20,000 bail.
Brandishing.. 600 block N. Coast Hwy. 10:46 p.m. Lucas Richard Kneer, 34, who is homeless, allegedly
pulled a four-inch knife and threatened a grocery store customer in the soup aisle. Bail of $25,000 was set for Kneer, already on probation for carrying a concealed weapon.
DUI. 11:42 p.m. Thalia St. A 30-year-old Costa Mesa man was arrested for DUI and held for $2500 bail.
Saturday, May 19
Pedestrian stop. 200 block of Ocean Ave. Robert K. Eller, 45, of Laguna Beach, was arrested for suspicion of DUI and held for $20,000 bail due to a prior conviction and driving with a suspended license.
DUI. 1:20 p.m. Laguna Canyon Rd. Two Irvine men were arrested for various charges after they were observed throwing beer bottles out a window.

Traffic stop. 1:27 a.m. S. Coast Hwy. A 33-year-old man from Laguna Niguel was cited for DUI and held for $2,500 bail.
Traffic stop. 1:36 a.m. Bluebird Canyon. A 22-year-old Garden Grove resident was cited for DUI and held for $2500 bail.
Traffic stop. 2:12 a.m. 600 block Laguna Canyon Rd. A 22-year-old Duarte man was cited for DUI and held for $2500 bail.
Traffic stop. 2:30 a.m. 200 block Ocean Ave. A 21-year-old La Jolla woman was arrested for DUI and held for $2500 bail.
