Community organizers are collecting supplies for their annual back-to-school party and BBQ planned for Friday, Aug.  17, at No Square Theater’s Legion Hall, 384 Legion St.

The party provides new school supplies as well as hygiene kits, underwear, socks, shirts and pullovers to school-age children of low-income families.

Donations can be dropped off at Legion Hall or the Susi Q Center on Third Street. Examples include new backpacks, highlighter pens, spiral notebooks, three ring binders and sharpies. Clothes and shoes are always welcome as well.

Program directors Marsha Bode and Sande St. John say the event provides about 75 kids each with about $20 worth of new items they’ll need to start the school year.

Annel Anaya, a mother of two, said last year was her first time at the event and she appreciated the help for items she could not afford on her own.

  1. Heard you are short of supplies, Sande – don’t worry, we’re on it! Will light a fire under some of the parents and community organizers in town.
