Learning the Art of Empathy
The Laguna Beach Branch of the AAUW invites the public to a free presentation on mindful communication by Karen O’Connell from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, April 20, at the Boys and Girls Club, 1085 Laguna Canyon Road.
A counselor and member of the Center for Nonviolent Communication, O’Connell discusses the power of clear and empathic communication to enhance relationships and a sense of well-being. Her talk will include how to express authenticity with more ease and clarity and even how to enjoy difficult conversations. A question and answer session will follow the presentation.

It’s All About Effective Communication
Local psychologist Dr. Marion K. Jacobs, adjunct professor of psychology at UCLA, will make a free presentation to the public on “Communicating in Close Relationships” from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 28, at the Susi Q Senior Center at 380 Third Street. Participants will learn about what really works in successful personal communication.
