The ever-popular tamale sale at the Presbyterian Church on Hospitality Night was made possible by more than a dozen volunteers.
Their handiwork produced over 1000 tamales and sales exceeded $3,000, says Mary Schmidt, executive director of the South County Crosscultural Council, based in Laguna Beach.
The tamale sale beneficiary is the La Playa Center, which offers free English language classes and childcare through the Crosscultural Council. The council also collaborates with the Laguna Food Pantry and the Boys and Girls Club preschool to present workshops on nutrition and childcare
Many hands contribute to the meal including organizers Loren Cohen and Peg Donner, and La Playa’s director, Sally Rapuano.
