Girls Volleyball (1-5)

Breakers dropped their home opener on Tuesday to J Serra losing 25-19, 25-22, 25-16. Breakers faced Laguna Hills this past Thursday and will host Newport Harbor on Tuesday, Sept. 20.

Last weekend Laguna finished 21st out of 32 teams in the annual Mohs Orange County Championships, losing to three Division 1 schools and defeating their only Division 2 opponent.

On Friday, Sept. 9, at Corona del Mar, they lost to Santiago/Corona 25-20, 25-18 then narrowly lost to J Serra 22-25, 25-23, 19-21. On Saturday, Sept. 10, they defeated Notre Dame Sherman Oaks 25-22, 11-25, 15-13. In playoffs, they lost to the eventual silver division champion, Chaparral, 25-14, 25-17. Overall for the tournament, Lexi McKeown had 29 kills, Lucy Fontenot and Soren Patchell each had 21. Hallie Carballo was the dig leader with 42, and Lucy Fontenot the top server.

 

Boys Sand Volleyball

The third season of the Orange County League got underway this past week with Laguna facing Huntington Beach on the Grant Street Courts in Newport.

The upcoming schedule for 3 p.m. matches, all on Thursdays:

Sept. 29, Orange Lutheran; Oct. 6, Saddleback Valley Christian @ Doheny; Oct. 13, St Margaret’s; Oct. 20, Los Alamitos.

Breakers defeated Huntington Beach for the title in 2014 and finished runner-up to Saddleback Valley Christian last season. Format includes five two-man matches and one four-man match.
