Classes Mix Art, Nature and Unusual Settings

Laguna Outreach for Community Arts is now taking registrations for a choice of ocean or plant themed art workshops at Laguna Beach locations this month.

Art and Sea Lions, offered on Saturday. Feb. 9, 9-10:30 a.m., takes place at the Pacific Marine Mammal Center. Participants will view live sea lions, then create Gyotaku fish prints from real herring as taught by Lorraine Passero. Cost is $20 adults / $15 ages 6-up.

Botanicals classes are offered on a choice of Feb. 14 or 16, 9:30-11:30 a.m. at Crescent Bay Point Park. A horticulturalist will introduce bird of paradise, and September McGee will guide participants in creating a flower rendering using oil pastels. Cost is $30, adults, ages 16-up.

Watercolors on the Beach will be held on Sunday, Feb. 17, 10-11:30 a.m. Attendees will view starfish and crabs during a docent tour of the tidepools of Treasure Island Beach. Following that, McGee will teach watercolor techniques, and everyone will take home finished art. Cost is $35 adults / $20 children ages 6-up.

Laguna Canyon Studios offers new art classes and workshops at the “Anchor” studio in the Laguna Canyon Artists Complex, with different classes every day of the week. Artists Javier Alvarez, Robin Hall, Fred Hope, Scott Yeskel and others are teaching an array of classes from “Drawing for Painters” to “Painting in Oil.” In addition, there are specialized three to four-day workshops as well, including Figure Sculpting.

Secrets of Photoshop Unlocked

Instructor Bill Atkins will teach how to adjust photo color, brightness and contrast, among other photography concepts on Monday, 11 from 10 a.m. to noon, at the Susi Q, 380 Third St. Classes.
