The World Surf League World Championships (WSL) was held at Lower Trestles in San Clemente on Sept. 9 and 10.

Of the 10 surfers competing, five men and five women, four reside in San Clemente and will be on the US Olympic team in Paris 2024. Caroline Marks was the women’s world champion, achieving a spot on the US Olympic team, and Filipe Toledo is the men’s champion for the second straight year.

He is also a San Clemente resident. Griffin Colapinto is also from San Clemente. He was seeded second and finished in third place overall.

The WSL will host the Long Board World Championships in October in Malibu. Laguna Beach’s own Avalon Gall will compete.
