Looking for a satisfying activity? Want to give back to the community? Like working with kids?

If you have an hour or two a week to spare and would like to help a child learn, become a volunteer tutor for The Learning Club, which will operate Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from January through May.

The club is sponsored by The American Association of University Women, Laguna Beach, and is an after-school tutoring program at El Morro Elementary. Teachers recommend students in grades 2-5 for additional help.

Local adults and teens are welcome to apply. No experience is necessary; training is provided. To volunteer or for more information, contact Peggie Thomas 949 499-1817, [email protected]).

Laguna Beach locals Amy Jackson and Rona Gromet host a Christmas tea on Sunday, Dec. 6, from 2:30 -5 p.m. at 2250 Park Ave. on behalf of the R Star Foundation.

The tea will benefit agricultural villagers in Nepal still recovering from recent earthquakes, towns that had previously received assistance from the Laguna Beach foundation founded by local Rosalind Russell.

A goat purchase from R Star assists in running a school in Nepal and rebuilding infrastructure.

For more information and tax-deductible donation options visit: RStarFoundation.org or call 949-497-4911.
