A foul smell is blowing in from the East as Trump-like rhetoric and personal attacks arrive in the Indy. When someone is losing on an issue, the reaction is often to attack the messenger. Winners stick to the issues in respectful debate.
Sure, Billy Fried has the right to criticize public figures such as the Hanos and dedicated community groups, but his tone and ridicule (“Agents of Stasis,” Letters, May 20) lends nothing to the discussion of short-term rentals or other issues. Instead, such personal attacks set us all up to demean one another rather than intelligently resolving our differences and finding smart solutions.
Good neighbors do not publically attack their neighbors in a great town. Cooperation and basic respect are necessary for us all to work together on the pressing, common problems facing Laguna today.
Let’s debate instead of hate.
