Live Drawing With a Twist

Performance artists Barbara Berk returns to Joanne Artman Gallery to reprise her work at 5:30 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 12, 326 N. Coast Highway.

While Berk has an extensive background in traditional artistic media, she is mostly known for her performance work, which often incorporates some aspect of drawing.

“My drawings and drawing performances are about the physical act of drawing and about drawing as an extension of the body. Many drawings use repetition by taking a simple gesture and repeating it until it transforms into something else. I often use my body’s limitations, such as physical endurance, or the reach of my wrist, arms, or legs,” said Berk, a Laguna resident, who also performed during the Laguna Art Museum’s OsCene exhibit in April.

Artist Opens Her Door to Visitors

Artist Cydette Perell opens her studio daily during business hours in December, giving patrons a glimpse back to the 1960s when summer homes were converted into surf shacks by the local beach crowds.

The fine art gallery and studio at 630 S. Coast Highway is nestled amid a grove of palm and eucalyptus trees. The wrap-around decks serve as exhibition space; several surf paintings hang from the trees. The artist works in pastels
