Laguna Community Concert Band performs their Christmas concert at the Laguna Beach High School’s Artist’s Theatre from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 12. “Holiday Favorites” is the theme of the concert, which promises the usual diverse music and styles offered by the LCCB. Tickets to the concert will be available at the door for $5, and parking is free.

The 50-piece ensemble will showcase such numbers as Bach’s “Fugue ala Gigue” and “Passacaglia on an Old English Carol,” contrasted with selections from Tchaikovsky’s classic “The Nutcracker Suite,” including the “Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy” and the narrative-driven “Peter and the Wolf,” and Christmas favorites will be sprinkled throughout the program.

The audience will be further entertained with changes of pace and a variety of smaller ensemble and solo works, including the LCCB trombone and flute choirs and the big band SwingSet. Featured performers include Lona Ingwerson as narrator and master of ceremonies, vocalist Linda Hughes, and clarinetist Gary Gould, a master of Klezmer music who specially arranged a piece for the concert.

The all-volunteer, 60-member band is under the direction of Dr. Bill Nicholls, Ed Peterson and Pete Fournier. The band is always recruiting for good musicians.
