Young Printmaker Captures NY’s Grandeur

Printmaker Lindsay Buchman

Irvine’s alternative arts space 680 Roosevelt presents cityscapes of 23-year-old Laguna Beach printmaker Lindsay Buchman in her first solo exhibit “Metropolitan Impressions,” which opened last week.

New York’s Dumbo neighborhood.

Buchman’s weathered, grimy-feeling prints of soaring skyscrapers and mammoth bridges pit the vitality of man’s creativity against the traditions and toils of an urban culture. Lindsay layers bold paints with newspaper clippings and printmaking techniques. She builds her art, mimicking the way men have attempted to be remembered by layering stones to create buildings and cities like New York.

Buchman is currently pursuing a bachelor of fine arts in printmaking at Cal State Long Beach. “Metropolitan Impressions” can be seen at Bikram Yoga’s alternative arts space, 680 Roosevelt in Irvine, through January.
