Volunteers organize a communal Thanksgiving feast welcome to all residents.

The buffet style Community Thanksgiving takes place at noon on Thursday, Nov. 28, at Neighborhood Congregational Church, 340 St. Ann’s Dr. Ready to eat turkeys and side dishes are needed; food donations and volunteers for set-up and cleanup are welcomed at 11 a.m.

The food and supplies are provided by individuals, churches and community groups.

“Community Thanksgiving is something you have to see to understand,” says Dawn Price, executive director of Friendship Shelter, which co-sponsors the event with Neighborhood Congregational Church. “People from all walks of life gather together to give thanks for our blessings and to ensure that all who need the physical and emotional nourishment of a Thanksgiving feast are fed.”

Volunteers carve turkeys and prepare bag lunches for needy members of the community to take home.  In past years, 600-700 meals have been served at this event.
