A rowing crew from the Newport Aquatic Center competed at Sacramento’s Lake Natoma for the 2015 Southwest Regionals Championship race May 1-3.
Among the team are Laguna Beach High School juniors Ian Detweiler, Chad Kanner, Anthony Morrell, and Zach Spitz,who participated in various boats and emerged victorious in all their races.
The foursome started rowing last September, but have a long athletic history together in team sports including water polo, football, tennis, baseball, mountain bike racing, cross-country running and track. All four, who have been friends since elementary school, are LBHS honor students.
