Squatters Take a New Tack

Someone perhaps envious of an ocean view deposited a couch, coffee table and rug on an undeveloped lot in the 3300 block of Alta Laguna Boulevard sometime before 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 8.

That’s when the property owner called police to report that an unknown suspect set up “house” in his living room overnight, said police Sgt. Louise Callus, who classified the “crime” as vandalism since one of the story poles had been broken,

No More Refills 

Police conducting a search at the home of a parolee on Wednesday, Sept. 5, arrested Elizabeth Gastellum, 45, for suspicion of burglary and prescription fraud.

Gastellum, of San Juan Capistrano, allegedly called in fraudulent prescriptions to Target pharmacies using the control numbers and vernacular she learned while working for a surgical center, police Sgt. Louise Callus said.

She previously has been arrested for calling in fraudulent prescriptions using family member’s names and police learned she was continuing the practice, said Callus, who confirmed that a Laguna Beach doctor’s office was involved.

Gastellum faces four counts of burglary and four counts of prescription fraud. Bail was set at $20,000.

Monday, Sept. 3

Traffic stop. 7 p.m. 1400 block Coast hwy. A Colton man was arrested for DUI and held for $10,000 bail. A second subject, a 48-year-old Costa Mesa resident was arrested for an outstanding larceny warrant from Colorado.

Domestic violence. 200 block of Upland Rd. 10:28 p.m. A 37-year-old Laguna Beach man was arrested for suspicion of kidnapping and domestic violence after he forced his wife into a car after she had fled. Bail was set at $100,000.

Grand theft. 1 p.m. 1300 block Moorea Way. For a third time, someone has taken packages left at this address. The current loss was $1,014.

Vandalism. 4:36 p.m. 30700 Marilyn Dr. While parked, unknown suspect broken the back of rear window. Nothing was taken. A purse on a rear seat was untouched.

Wednesday, Sept. 5

Traffic stop. 12:32 a.m. 30600 block of Coast Hwy. A 31-year-old Fallbrook man was arrested for DUI.

Hit and run. 3:23 p.m. 31800 block of Coast Hwy. David Brandon Bates, 22, of Temecula, was taken into custody at gunpoint after an officer observed a road race where Bates’ vehicle rear-ended a truck. He was arrested for reckless driving and an outstanding car-theft warrant.

Thursday, Sept. 6

Vehicle stop. 1:22 a.m. St. Ann’s. A 37-year-old Laguna Beach man was cited for DUI and held for $2,500 bail.

Grand theft. 20600 Laguna Canyon Rd. 8 a.m. A recycling bag that contained a wallet was taken; charges have been made on one of the credit cards and withdrawals attempted.

Fraud report. 1800 block Glenneyre St. 11:35 a.m. A resident reported a credit card loss of $970.

Vandalism. 2:45 p.m. 500 block of Coast Hwy. Etching was reported on a window.

Vandalism 5:33 p.m. 400 block Coast Hwy. Etching on window glass is discovered.

Friday, Sept. 7

Warrant arrest. 3:21 a.m. Stacey Ann Owens, 45, of Laguna Beach, was taken into custody for multiple outstanding warrants, including prostitution. Police were called when she refused her host’s request that she leave.

Reckless driving. Vista del sol. 3:25 a.m. A 24-year-old local resident was arrested for DUI and held for $2,500 bail.

DUI. 11 p.m. Laguna Canyon Rd. Police received two reports of an erratic driver and arrested a 48-year-old Laguna Beach man. Bail was set at $2500.

DUI. 11:46 p.m. 100 block of N. Coast Hwy. After a clerk reported smelling alcohol on the breath of a customer, police arrested an Ocean Ridge, Fla., resident for DUI. Bail was set at $2500.

Saturday, Sept. 8

Traffic stop. 1:19 a.m. Moss St. An 18-year-old Laguna Niguel girl was arrested for DUI and held for $2,500 bail.

Arrest. 6:11 p.m. 2500 Laguna Canyon Rd. Rey Denszo Kaemi, 40, of Irvine, was arrested for outstanding warrants after he attempted to reclaim a BMW towed earlier that had no plates. Bail was set at $30,000.

Traffic stop. 7:38 p.m. Brooks St. A 55-year-old Laguna Beach woman was arrested for DUI and held for $2500 bail.

Robbery. 30900 Coast Hwy. 8:11 p.m. Police suspect a local transient in the robbery of a market for a $22 bottle of vodka.

Sunday, Sept. 9

Traffic stop. 20600 block Laguna Canyon Rd. 12:49 a.m. A 48-year-old Aliso Viejo man was cited for DUI and held for $2500 bail.

Traffic stop. 600 block of Laguna Canyon Rd. 1:08 a.m. A 60-year-old Mission Viejo woman was arrested for DUI and held for $2,500 bail.

Disturbance. 12:57 p.m. S. Coast Hwy. A 43-year-old Lake Forest man was cited for impersonating fire personnel and possessing a false birth certificate. Bail was set at $15,000.
