A Two-Faced Town

Editor,

At 10 a.m., the opening ceremonies of the 2018 Sawdust Festival took place last Friday with Laguna Beach City Council member Steve Dicterow, a beloved friend of the artists in town, cutting the ribbon to inaugurate our season.

At exactly the same time the city meter police, a cadre of three or more, swept through the canyon, ticketing dozens of cars and then systematically went through Woodland, Arroyo and Canyon Acres, ticketing further any resident who had failed to put their street permit on their mirror.

How appreciative we were that Steve gave a warm city welcome to the Sawdust. But how disheartening to be treated by an aggressive wave of meter police who had no mercy on our opening day. One officer understandable. But a whole crew, shameful.
