The 20th anniversary Mission Hospital gala was deemed a success, raising $1.3 million to complete a $200 million capital campaign and a special project in Laguna Beach.
The Fund A Need challenge raised nearly $650,000 to support adolescent and young adult mental health and wellness at Mission Hospital Laguna Beach. These precious funds set the stage for a future hospital initiative to significantly expand programs and services for vulnerable adolescents, says a statement.
The gala celebrates treasured people who have enhanced the lives of patients, their families and the community through philanthropy.
Nepal’s Humanitarian Crisis Deteriorates
A trade embargo by India is still affecting Nepal, making it difficult to get fuel or building supplies to areas damaged by the April 25 earthquake, says a statement from local Rosalind Russell, whose nonprofit supports education and villages in rural Nepal.
She says 55 children are studying under tarps and a tin roof in the school supported by her R-Star Foundation. Others are living with the thinnest of shelters, insufficient to protect them from attacks by tigers or roaming criminal marauders. Suicides are increasing, says Russell, prevented by the embargo from returning to Nepal.
