A scholarship group at Thurston Middle School known as Ten Boys Who Care are more than halfway to their $2,500 fundraising goal.

The seventh graders, who are all athletes, started their group on the premise that winning isn’t everything, but being a bad sport can ruin everything.

The recipients of the scholarships, two seniors (one boy and one girl) from Laguna Beach High School must write an essay relating why their most embarrassing sports moment made them better sports.

The group has been washing cars, painting curbs, holding garage sales and selling lemonade since August. They plan a January yard sale at the Legion Hall.

Look for the group’s historian, Ayrton Garcia, who will perform on Hospitality Night, Friday, Dec. 6, to raise additional funds.
