Editor,

Last month, we reported on the June 2013 water-conservation results –collectively you achieved a 31% reduction over June of 2013 usage against a mandated reduction of 24%. The July 2015 figures have just become available and South Coast Water District customers broke their earlier record –you achieved an astounding 33% reduction.

Our most sincere “thank you” to all of you who have responded to the call to conserve in such an outstanding manner. While most everyone had a hand in this impressive result, this month we want to extend special thanks to the largest of our customers and in particular to those who saved 50 percent or more this July compared 2013. They are: City of Dana Point, 54.2%; County of Orange, 52.1%; Searidge Condo, 56.4%; Laguna Beach Golf and Bungalow Village, 90.9%; Old Mill Pond HOA, 58.6%; Caltrans, 90.7%; Waterford Point HOA, 54.3%; The Village at Dana Point HOA, 53.0%; Monarch Bay HOA, 56.3%; South Orange County Wastewater Authority, 59.5%; St. Edwards Catholic Church, 70.5%; Capo Unified School District, 65.8%; and Bal Harbour Community Assoc., 50.6%.

We truly appreciate everything that you, our customers have done. Please keep up the great work as we finish out August and enter into September and then the fall. In spite of the forecast for a significant El Nino this winter, there is no guarantee of rain. In fact, The Farmer’s Almanac, that great predictor of weather and all other important things since 1818, has predicted continuing drought after a wet fall.

If you are among those who have not yet started a serious water conservation effort, please start now. You can learn how at: – www.scwd.org/conservation.

Thank you again for all you have done.
